In the January 2026 edition:

Construction pivot • Bootcamp deadline • Indigenous ag partnership

Dear fellow problem-solver,

January is a time for new beginnings. It’s also a good time for a reality check.

In his widely shared speech from the World Economic Forum last week, it appears that our Prime Minister shares in this sentiment. In order to move forward and make real progress on issues that matter, it’s important to see things as they are—not how they used to be, or how we hope for them to be. As Carney put it, “nostalgia is not a strategy”.

In this month’s newsletter, we share some work that’s keeping us rooted in the current moment while maintaining a responsive flexibility as we look to what’s next.

In the Canada Plastics Pact Annual Report, we celebrate progress as well as recognize the barriers that must be overcome to achieve greater circularity in the plastics space. We share exciting news of a strategic construction-related pivot in response to an area of growing importance in Canada. And we offer an opportunity for folks to shore up their personal and technical capacity as a way to become more meaningfully involved in Canada’s emerging nature-finance market.

We aren’t in control of everything around us, but if we can see reality as it is, the steps we must take to build a more prosperous and sustainable future become clearer.

As our Prime Minister remarked, “The powerful have their power. But we have something too—the capacity to stop pretending, to name reality, to build our strength at home, and to act together.”

Onwards,

Your Generate Canada Team
