Nature finance on the move • Next gen farmers • Thinking beyond GDP
Dear fellow problem-solver,
September is harvest season—a time when months of hard work finally come to fruition.
As we watch this cycle play out in nature, we also watch it play out in our work. Earlier this month, over 140 investors, asset managers, and project developers packed into a room at EY in downtown Toronto for the Nature Investment Hub’s 5X for Nature: Investment Showcase and Roundtable.
After months of conversations and momentum building behind the scenes, this well-attended event was an important signal: nature finance is on the move.
Held as a side event at the Canada Investment Summit, the Roundtable’s success confirmed that nature finance is being recognized as an emerging investment opportunity—an opportunity with a growing pipeline of projects that can meet investor risk-return expectations. And with Indigenous-led finance at the centre of this growth, making up half of the projects showcased at the event, there is a growing recognition that Indigenous leadership will be central to scaling high-impact conservation across the country.
The Roundtable was a refreshing reminder of how many people share in a belief that guides our work here at Generate Canada—our economy, our communities, and the land they depend on are deeply interrelated. And if we want to create change at the systemic level, each of these elements must be considered in tandem.
Read on to see what else we have been up to this month as we make the shift into fall.
Onwards,
Your Generate Canada Team
