Complexity.
It’s often cited as something to avoid if you want to move fast and achieve more. But in our experience, the exact opposite is true.
Complexity is defined as “the state of a system having many interrelated, interacting components”. As an organization that has spent 30 years tackling our country’s most wicked problems, we know there is no road to a good solution without addressing the interrelation and interaction between issues and their moving parts.
Complexity means looking at an issue from different angles. It means having many conversations because there is no way that having only one could lead to the best outcome.
And while it can certainly be intricate, complexity doesn’t need to be complicated. It’s possible to articulate complex opportunities and solutions in an accessible way without diluting the systems thinking that’s needed to tackle wicked challenges.
In this month’s newsletter we are sharing work from across our Solution Spaces that embraces complexity—work that showcases our multi-layered approach to problem-solving.
In the stories featured below you will learn about how we are working with government, doing the technical research, convening interest-holders, creating accessible platforms, and surveying folks on the front-lines to develop scalable solutions.
As our world grows more complicated by the day, let’s remember that leaning into complexity can actually lead to most simple, strategic, and enduring solutions.
Onwards,
