5X For Nature • Economic case for circularity • Investing in farmers
Nature, society, and economy.
For decades, sustainability thinking pictured these as separate systems that occasionally intersected—systems that overlapped, but whose success was not necessarily seen as dependent on each other.
As a result of this siloed thinking, nature was often put on the backburner, or even viewed as a barrier in the race for economic prosperity. But this mindset is changing with growing evidence of the economic and social costs of forest fires, droughts, storms, biodiversity loss, and other casualties of a fast-shifting climate.
Thankfully, outdated notions are being displaced with the understanding that these systems are not three separate circles that sometimes overlap, but instead, three interdependent layers stacked on top of one another, showing how our economy relies on both a thriving society and a thriving natural world.
Nature isn’t separate—in fact, it’s the foundation that everything else is built on. This is especially true in Canada, where we all benefit from a resource-rich economy.
When we invest in nature-based solutions, we’re not making a trade-off between environmental and economic priorities, we’re choosing to advance all at the same time.
In this month’s newsletter, we share how our work is catalyzing increased investments in protecting and regenerating nature to support the growth of a strong and sustainable economy:
Read on to see what else we are up to this month.
Enjoy the rest of the summer,
