A Strategic Pivot to Construction

Circular Economy Leadership Canada is transitioning to Circular Construction Canada

With momentum building behind the broader circular economy in Canada, our Circular Economy Leadership Canada (CELC) Solution Space is making a strategic pivot by doubling down in an area of  rising national importance and priority—circular construction.

As of January 2026, CELC has re-launched as Circular Construction Canada (CCC)—a sector-focused, action-oriented platform dedicated to advancing circularity in Canada’s construction and real estate sectors.

A familiar area, now the main focus

While this re-brand signals a doubling down on circular construction, this area of focus isn’t new to our team. Before this transition, the CCC team had already been working on circular construction initiatives by way of the Circular Construction Innovation Hub under CELC—the first national initiative focused on accelerating the adoption of circular strategies and practices across Canada’s construction and real estate sector.

As part of this transition to Circular Construction Canada, the Innovation Hub is moving from a planning phase to an era of execution. Through strategic convening, regional demonstration projects, and knowledge sharing, the Innovation Hub is advancing cost-efficient, market-ready solutions, and de-risking investment in circular strategies, practices and technologies—work that will be the backbone of CCC going forward.

A Solution Space that evolves is a healthy Solution Space

This evolution of CELC to CCC is a testament to the our Solution Space model, which is designed to incubate and launch Solution Spaces to address specific issues where we know our expertise, partnership, and collective knowledge can have a big impact.

Our portfolio of Solution Spaces is custom-designed to be responsive—to grow and change in step with the challenges and opportunities our country faces, which is why we are so thrilled to be focusing in on an area of growing importance like circular construction in Canada.

Strengthening existing partnerships and building new ones too

With this pivot also comes the opportunity for new partnership and collaboration opportunities for those working in the circular economy space. Many thanks to the initial funders and founding partners of CCC—Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, Alberta Real Estate Foundation, Max Bell Foundation, The Cooperators, Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
